Dog‑Friendly HOTEL Stays in Portsmouth



From Monday 30th March 2026, we’re delighted to be offering dog‑friendly stays at the Royal Maritime Hotel – and Portsmouth is a great place to explore with four paws in tow. From seafront strolls to cosy cafés, here are a few ideas to help you plan your break.


Seafront walks, green spaces and beaches


Portsmouth packs a lot of sea air into a small area, with plenty of options for walkies:


  • Southsea Seafront
    Stroll the promenade with views across the Solent.
  • Southsea Common is excellent for a good run around. Dogs are welcome on the Common all year, with bins and wide open space for off‑lead play.
  • Beaches and seasonal rules
    Dogs are allowed on much of Southsea and Eastney beach outside the summer restrictions, with a dog‑free stretch in the busiest central section during peak season. Always check local signs, and    Portsmouth City Council's webpages, as dates and zones can change.


Portsmouth and Southsea are well‑supplied with places where dogs are genuinely welcome.

A few practical tips


Bring a long lead for flexibility on the seafront, where some areas require dogs to be on lead year-round.

Pack a towel (provided) when you go out and about – most dogs find water sooner or later, especially at the beach: ).

Check current “dogs on beaches” guidance before you head out, especially between Southsea Castle and Eastney, where seasonal regulations apply.


Cleaning Fees


£30 Dog‑Friendly Stay (standard fee)

Included for every dog in a pet‑friendly room:

  • A mat.
  • Some dog-poo bags.
  • A blanket.
  • A water bowl.

Please note that- Dogs will only be allowed in the Bar and communal area, they are not allowed in the restaurant or function rooms
