A spectacular student showcase

On Thursday 26th May, our historic ballroom will be transformed by the graduating students from the University of Chichester’s renowned BA (Hons) Musical Theatre (Cabaret) and Dance and Aerial Arts programmes, bringing a thrilling blend of song, dance, aerial and acrobatic performance to Portsmouth. These are industry‑ready performers who train intensively in singing, acting, dance and specialist cabaret and aerial skills, with guaranteed roles in fully staged productions as part of their degree.

About the cabaret and aerial training

The Musical Theatre (Cabaret) degree is the only course of its kind in the UK, combining traditional musical theatre training with specialist cabaret and stage‑entertainment skills for careers on cruises, in holiday resorts and live venues. Students study a generous amount of jazz, ballet, tap, commercial dance and body conditioning, alongside acting through song, spoken voice, comedy, magic and recording‑studio techniques, and can add options such as pole, aerial and silk work to their repertoire.

Working alongside them are performers from the University’s pioneering Dance and Aerial Arts degree, the first aerial dance undergraduate programme in the UK, offering intensive practical training that combines dance technique with aerial and physical theatre.

What to expect on the night

Audiences can look forward to an electric evening of cabaret floor numbers, powerful ensemble routines and intimate solo turns, seamlessly weaving together live vocals, character‑driven storytelling and breathtaking aerial and acrobatic sequences. The third‑year Cabaret Performance Company are used to performing in regional theatres and public showcase events, and this opening night at the Royal Maritime Hotel will be a chance to see them at the cusp of their professional careers.
